ASHTAPADIYATTAM
Ashtapadiyattam , is a dance form created by Padmavati , the wife of great Sanskrit scholar and poet Jayadeva , based on his illustrious work Gitagovindam and presented in the temples all over India in 12 th century.
Ashtapadiyattam in Kerala in 1950s-70s perspective
Ashtapadiyattam was there in Kerala in 1950s.It was Prof. Karimbuzha Ramakrishnan a great linguist,writer , orator and perforrmer in Govt.Brennen college (Thalassery) ,who selected and edited the 24 Ashtapadis .The designing of choreographic sequnece of Ashtapadi was done by Padmasree. Chemenchery Kunhiraman Nair , the celebrated dance master and the eminent Kathakali teacher .Sadly the ,media was ignored this important aspects of Kerala ‘s dance form .During 1950-1970s about 200 performance where done throughout kerala . The performances where enriched by staging of it by the drama dancer Kannur Seethalakshmi .But in due course the art form went to oblivion.
Half a century later the dance form has been revived under the tutorship of Shri. Guru Chemenchery Kunhiraman Nair and Seethalakshmi by Kalamandalam Sheeba Krishnakumar without losing it’s original grandeur .The resurrection of this art form was first happened on 23rd May 2017 at Dinesh auditorium Kannur. In this this period she had completed more than hundred stages all over India.
